3 Signs You Need to Go to the Dentist

At Jordan Dentistry, it is not uncommon for us to see dental issues that have been ignored for too long. When this happens, it usually causes more damage to the teeth, rather than the issue being caught and addressed early on. These are 3 signs that you need to make a dentist appointment right away.

Amalgam Filling#1 Tooth pain

Any kind of persistent tooth pain needs to be addressed by your dentist. Even if the pain goes away, it will probably return. Most tooth pain indicates some kind of infection and generally indicates a serious problem.

#2 A Broken Filling

The constant pressure from chewing, grinding, or clenching can cause your dental fillings to wear, chip, or crack. When this happens, food particles and bacteria can work their way underneath the filling and cause additional decay. A broken filling needs to be addressed immediately by your dentist.

#3 A Filling Fell Out

Newer fillings can fall out when the area of placement was contaminated prior to placement, or if they were fractured during bite or chewing trauma. Older fillings can fall out due to decay or if the remaining tooth is fractured. If you lose a filling, be gentle when brushing and flossing until you can see your dentist, but make sure you get into the office as soon as possible. If you are having intense pain, you can also take over the counter pain medications.

You only get one set of your very own teeth, so make sure you take care of them every day! If you are having any kind of tooth pain or sensitivity, it is always a good idea to see your dentist and have everything checked out to make sure there are no severe problems causing your pain. Dr. Jordan wants to see you with a big smile and great oral health and we can help you make that happen at our Cumming, GA family and cosmetic dentistry office.
