Brushing: The Tooth of the Matter

Brushing sounds like such an easy and straightforward part of our daily routine, right? There actually is a right and a
wrong way to do it though. Jordan Dentistry in Cumming, GA, is dedicated to bringing you the brightest smile possible, both in our office and out of our office. So we have listed out the proper procedure for brushing your teeth as approved by the American Dental Association.

Brushing 101

  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a soft bristle brush. Make sure the toothbrush fits the size and shape of your mouth comfortably.
  • Replace your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months, or when the bristles begin to fray.
  • Use ADA accepted toothpaste.

When brushing, make sure to…

  • Place brush at 45-degree angle to the gums.
  • Move the brush back and forth in small strokes.
  • Brush every bit of your tooth. The outer surface, the inner surface and the chewing surface.
  • Brush your tongue to remove bacteria, and eliminate bad breath.

Brushing is, of course, only part of the equation. Don’t forget to floss, eat a balanced diet and visit your dentist every 6 months.
