Dental Sealants

Children are more prone to tooth decay than adults for several reasons.  During this stage in development, the teeth are erupting into a smaller space, and it is difficult for them to get into all the nooks and crannies to keep the teeth clean and free of plaque.  Some children do not understand the importance of oral hygiene or preventing cavities.  Making oral care more fun can help parents get these children more interested in keeping their teeth healthy.  Toothbrushes and toothpaste made in fun colors and characters can help.

Jordan Dentistry also offers dental sealants to help prevent plaque buildup in the cracks and on the teeth.  Dental sealants are a quick and painless procedure that has been shown to decrease the development of cavities.  The CDC reports that dental sealants are effective for up to 80% at two years and up to 50% effective for up to 4 years.

Dr. Jordan uses a small brush to apply a rubbery coating over the teeth.  The coating seals down into the cracks to keep food and plaque from sitting there to produce cavities. The sealant is monitored during routine examinations in the office and can be reapplied if damaged or worn down.

Most dental insurances cover dental sealants for children up to the age of 18.  Call 770-888-6262 for an appointment today.
