Don’t Let Your Smile Become Spooky this Halloween!

Halloween is a week away, and we are seeing more decorations and watching more scary movies in pumpkinspreparation for Halloween night. This holiday brings out a host of creative costumes and a collective, insatiable sweet tooth. Entire sections at the grocery store are dedicated to sweet treats and it seems to be lurking around every corner. While indulging in candy every now and then won’t harm your teeth, it’s easy to go on a binge this time of year. Jordan Dentistry truly understands the appeal candy can have on someone, so here are a few tips to follow this year!

  • Stay Hydrated – Being hydrated means that your mouth is producing more saliva. Saliva production is essential to keeping your mouth washed of harmful bacteria and substances, like sugar.
  • Steer Clear of Sticky Candy – Or any candy that stays in your mouth for a long time. The longer sugar stays in your mouth the greater the risk is for tooth decay. When possible, go with a candy that dissolves quickly to mitigate the risks.
  • Stick with Water – This goes for every other time of year, but especially for the month of October. Avoid the sugary drinks like soda or sports drinks. This exposes your mouth to harmful sugars in between eating all of that candy.
  • Brush Twice a Day – Again, this is an everyday suggestion, but more important than ever this time of year.
  • Floss – Candy can become stuck in between your teeth and expose your teeth to sugar for a prolonged period of time. Be sure to be diligent about flossing during the month of October.
