National Dental Hygiene Month Tips

toothbrushsPaying close attention to your dental hygiene is important anytime of the year, but in the month of October is a great time to remind ourselves of that fact. That is because this month is National Dental Hygiene Month! With all the sugary treats associated with this time of year, it couldn’t come at a better time. So, what can we be doing to practice great dental hygiene on a regular basis? Jordan Dentistry, located in Cumming, GA, has compiled a list of basic dental habits everyone should form.

  • Brushing
    • Be sure to brush your teeth at least twice a day.
    • It is important to brush your tongue as well to avoid bad breath.
    • Change your toothbrush every three months.
  • Flossing
    • The American Dental Association (ADA) suggests using 18 inches of floss for the most efficient clean.
    • Hold between thumb and forefinger and remember not to snap the floss in between your teeth, but rather, use a gentle rubbing motion.
    • When you have worked the floss to your gum, form it into a C shape against a tooth. Then gently slide it into the space between the gum and the tooth. Don’t forget the back teeth!
  • Well-balanced Diet
  • Regular Dental Checkups
    • You should see your dentist every 6 months to mitigate major dental issues.
    • If it has been more than 6 months since your last visit, schedule an appointment with us today!
