Oral Cancer: Signs and Symptoms

Almost 42,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral and throat cancers this year. These staggering numbers are all the more reason to make sure you are familiar with the signs and symptoms of this cancer. Jordan Dentistry wants you to have the know-how to spot these signs in the early stages, and the knowledge of what to do if you are.

Know the signs. If caught early, treating the cancer becomes much more easy. The American Dental Association has listed these signs to check for:

Mouth

  • A sore, or irritation that doesn’t go away
  • Red or white patches
  • Pain, tenderness or numbness in the mouth or lips
  • A lump, thickening, rough spot, crust or small eroded area
  • Difficulty chewing, swallowing, speaking or moving your tongue or jaw
  • A change in the way your teeth fit together when you close your mouth

You notice you are showing one of these symptoms, now what? Don’t panic, and immediately jump to conclusions, it may be nothing. This is also not something to ignore, schedule an appointment with your dentist for a check-up and tell them everything you have noticed.

If you are exhibiting some of these symptoms, please schedule an appointment with us, or a dentist near you.
