Summer Vacation: Stay on Course With Your Dental Care

The summer vacation is quickly drawing to a close, and people are clamoring to get in that last airplanevacation or trip of the season. But just because you plan to take a little break from the routines of work and school, it doesn’t mean we can take a break from our dental health. We often travel long distances to get to our vacation destinations, which can often have an impact on how we observe our typical dental routine. Jordan Dentistry, located in Cumming, GAhas these travel tips to keep your smile healthy and bright on your next trip!

  • Toothbrush Transport – The cleanliness of your toothbrush is important at home and even more important at your travel destination. When packing, make sure to pack your toothbrush in something that keeps it away from the other items in your bag. This will ensure it does not pick up contaminants along the way. Upon arrival, be sure to let the toothbrush air dry before using again to avoid bacterial build up.
  • Sugarless Gum – When on a trip, it isn’t always easy to get back to the place you are staying to brush your teeth as often as you usually do. Keep a pack of sugarless gum handy for after meals and while you are out and about. This can help ward off cavities when brushing isn’t an option.
  • Water – If you are unsure about the safety of the water at your travel destination, be sure to stock up on large amounts of bottled water. A general rule of thumb; if the water isn’t safe to drink, it isn’t safe for your dental health.
  • Limit Sweets – It is a common occurrence to want to go overboard with sweets and other indulgences while away from home. But while it’s not a real threat to enjoy your time off with these treats, just keep in mind that it should be kept to a minimum.
  • Book an Appointment – If you are experiencing any dental issues leading up to your trip, be sure to schedule a dental appointment before you leave. Address the issue beforehand so it’s not a worry while you are away!
