Tips to Cut Down on Sugar

Halloween has come and gone, hopefully without too much overindulgence. That doesn’t mean it’s time to get complacent about sugar, though. The upcoming holidays are full of temptation. Here at Jordan Dentistry in Cumming, GA, we’re all about eating less sugar without sacrificing fun. Check out our tips to cut back on sugar:

  • Start with breakfast. Many cereals are chock full of sugar, and that’s no way to start the day! Opt for healthier options without sweeteners.
  • Sugar can masquerade as sucrose, glucose, fructose, maltose, molasses, hydrolyzed starch, corn syrup, and many others. Avoid these ingredients when you’re avoiding sugar–you’ll find that it’s harder than you think!
  • Practice moderation. Do you really need dessert every day? Save cookies, cake, etc. for one day a week. You’ll consume less sugar, plus do your budget a favor, and these treats will feel more like treats.
  • Swap out sugary snacks for healthier options like fresh veggies, a handful of nuts, frozen fruits, or sugar-free snacks.
  • Drink more water! No matter how careful they are with food, many people ignore a crucial source of additional sugar: beverages! Obviously, sodas are a huge culprit here, but don’t forget about coffees, teas, and even fruit juices. Swapping these for milk or water is better for your teeth, your body, and your wallet.

Sugar is a cause of the majority of poor oral health and disease. Don’t let it play havoc with your beautiful teeth! Follow these tips and contact Jordan Dentistry for help and support in your journey towards a healthy, happy smile for you and your family.
